Day 1Discover the Douro Valley

An English speaking Chauffeur will be waiting for you in a deluxe vehicle at the airport. Be welcome to Portugal! Enjoy the scenic 2-hour road trip to the Douro Valley.

Check-in at Six Senses Douro Valley. Located in the beautiful Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Six Senses Douro Valley is touched by the romance of the 19th century architecture and is happily married with the contemporary interiors that reflect the inimitable style of the Six Senses.

Then, you will enjoy a soothing massage in the Six Senses SPA designed to evoke deep relaxation.

Day 2 Workshop and Great Cuisine

Wake up to the beautiful Douro landscape and recharge your batteries with a fantastic breakfast at the hotel.

The Chauffeur is waiting for you at the Hotel lobby.

Delight yourself with the delicacies that the Wine House Hotel has for your Lunch, led by the Chef of the Quinta da Pacheca Wine House. You will have a Traditional Cuisine Workshop. With this activity, you are expected to interact with the Chef participating in the preparation of the chosen option, learning or developing your knowledge of the Portuguese culture through gastronomy. Enjoy the tasty labor of love you just performed.

After lunch, you will find Quinta da Pacheca Cellar. The Quinta stands out for having been the first to bottle wine under its own brand. The first reference to the Quinta is in a document dated of the 17th April 1738, where it is called “the Pacheca”. Enjoy the private guided visit to the Vineyards and cellar with a wine tasting of Douro and Port wines.

Next stop will be at Quinta do Vallado. The cellar that combines the latest technology with high-quality architecture is one of the highlighted places to visit in the Douro Valley. João Ferreira Álvares Ribeiro, Francisco Ferreira and Francisco Olazabal, all descendent of Dona Antónia, have reached a very high level, recognized by several national and international entities. Deepen your wine knowledge in a private tour to the Winery and Wine Cellar with a Quinta do Vallado Wines Tasting.

At Six Senses activity center, you will have a Tile painting. Learn and practice the traditional method to paint Portuguese ceramic tile “azulejo” and take home this personalized souvenir. In this workshop each participant can paint two tiles (15 x15 cm – handmade tile: one using a traditional artistic tile painting technique with a template that showcases one local botanical species and the other using the actual flowers and leaves from the garden.

After the wine experience, you will enjoy a unique Chef’s Table experience at Six Senses Restaurant. A very personal journey of food and wine. An open cooking station is complete with a wood-fired oven for bread baking and a Josper Grill. Join a small group at a 10 courses meal that is prepared and hosted by the Chef, right before your eyes. Follow the process and complete the experience with selected accompanying wines. This is the greatest gastronomic option at the Six Senses Douro Valley that is celebrating the region.

Day 3Renowned Quintas in Douro

The visit to Quinta do Crasto and Quinta Nova is one of the Highlights of this Tour.

You will discover Quinta do Crasto. Out of 1,500 wineries nominated around the world for the World’s Best Vineyard, Quinta do Crasto was selected as the #4 top vineyard worldwide. You will have a small group visit the famous old vineyards, winery and beautiful warehouse barrels, which matured table wines and premium Port wines. One of the biggest recognitions received by this Quinta came in 2008, when the magazine Wine Spectator considered the Quinta do Crasto Reserva Old Vines 2005 from vines with 70 years, the third best wine in the world, giving it a 95 rating in one hundred points. Enjoy a traditional lunch prepared with products from the property. The meal usually served in the swimming pool area (designed by architect Souto Moura winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2011) a water mirror with breathtaking scenery.

After this excellent experience you will visit Quinta Nova Luxury Winery House “one of the 9 must-see wineries in the world” – distinguished by American Airlines. Precisely 250 years ago was harvesting their first grapes. This is, undoubtedly, one of the oldest wineries in the Douro region. You will visit in detail all production of wines, vineyard, winery of 1764, underground wine cellar and end your Private visit with a Top wine tasting: Grainha Reserve White, QN Gr. Reserve Red, QN GR Reference Red, Mirabilis Red and QN Vintage Port.

Dinner, will be served at Conceitus Restaurant. Indulge yourself with the delicacies that Quinta Nova’s restaurant team has to offer. The menu appeals to the senses and emotions, in a relaxed and curious way. The proposals are different every day, be guided by the inspiration of Chef José Pinto. During the 5 Moments degustation menu, you will observe the opening of a Vintage Port bottle with a heated tong is a traditional practice in older wines which is sure to create unique moments. Be sure to request this service, choosing a bottle of a very special year (bottle not included).

Day 4Private Douro River Cruise

Sail on board of a private cruise on the Douro River. On board the Libertu’s sail boat, experience the Portuguese history and feel the nature as it travels through the Douro River as a traditional Rabelo boat moved through the force of the sails. Be amazed by the scenarios that Douro has to offer.

Your lunch is waiting at DOC Restaurant. Led by Michelin Starred Chef Rui Paula, with modern and creative gastronomy, with Douro flavors. It’s a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard-covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment.

After lunch, we will take you to Real Companhia Velha’s crown jewel and the largest wine producing estate in the Douro region, Quinta das Carvalhas. The Vintage Tour is a private visit to the Vineyards accompanied by the Quinta das Carvalhas Agricultural Engineer. Join this tour and appreciate direct contact with nature in the vines, Mediterranean forests, and gardens, alongside the people who work them. The tour finishes at the wine shop for a tasting of the top Wines of Carvalhas partnered with a platter of cheeses and finishing with a glass of Port.

Day 5Discover Porto - World Heritage Site

Wake up at the beautiful Porto landscape and enjoy a fantastic breakfast at the Hotel. Take your time to enjoy the fabulous hotel.

Enjoy the amazing views and get to know the riverbanks of Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto.

Lunch will be served at a very cozy restaurant, the Traça Restaurant. A restaurant inspired by traditional cuisine of Iberian influence, with a retro decor based on materials such as iron, wood and tile and using antique pieces and furniture, near the most important Heritage in the city.

Then, meet with the certified private Guide, he will show you the highlights of the city of Porto, starting in the historic center we will take you to the Clérigos Tower, designed and decorated by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, located near Lello Bookstore, considered by Lonely Planet one of the three most beautiful bookstores in the world. Across Aliados Avenue, you will find São Bento Railway Station, where you can observe its twenty thousand painted tiles, depicting historical landmarks. Continue to Santa Catarina street where is located the Majestic Café.

The Majestic Café. The most stunning of all cafés in the nation and one of the most attractive in the world. It continues to live up to its name with a wonderful Belle Epoque atmosphere in its main room and attractive winter garden which have guaranteed it a spot in every café-themed coffee table book. You will enjoy a Wine Tourism in Portugal offer, a delicious afternoon tea.

After tea, enjoy one of the most beautiful views over the Douro River from Porto Cathedral. Originally built in the 12th century, Porto Cathedral still has the original merlons and twin towers. Then, you will visit the Stock Exchange Palace of Porto “Palácio da Bolsa”, the building with the most different architectural styles in Porto. Last but not least, a visit to the Church of Saint Francis that is the most prominent Gothic monument in Porto, being also noted for its outstanding Baroque inner decoration. Decorated with exuberant gilt wood work or gold leaf “talha dourada”.

Dinner is waiting for you at Pedro Lemos Restaurant. Set in the amazing scenery of the Douro River, which runs into Porto, is one of the most extraordinary restaurants in town. The Michelin Starred Chef Pedro Lemos cooks here, using quality ingredients from the sea and the land. Whether in the rustic chic ambience of the dining room, or on the rooftop terrace next to the chef’s herb garden, you will enjoy a special menus. You will experience the flavours of a Premium Menu paired with the best wine.

Day 6Become a truly connaiseur of the Port Wine history

You will discover Taylor’s Cellars. For many, Taylor’s is Porto’s most illustrious wine producing house and drinking its wines is the most sublime experience. Created in 1692, this is one of the oldest houses still maintaining its family character and dedicating itself exclusively to the production of Port wines, especially, to its best styles. A visit to the Taylor’s cellars is an absorbing and enriching experience that provides a unique journey into the fascinating world of Port wine. You will have a VINTAGE MASTER CLASS – Designed by experienced professionals and aimed at connoisseurs who want to learn more about the Vintage style. Includes a visit to the cellars and a class that deepens the knowledge about the production and characteristics of Taylor’s Vintage Ports.

Lunch will be served at Barão de Fladgate Restaurant. Barão Fladgate Restaurant enjoys a spectacular location and atmospheric setting in the grounds of Taylor’s Port cellars with magnificent views across the Douro River to the old historic centre of Porto. It offers a contemporary interpretation of traditional cuisine where the accent is on fresh local ingredients and on showcasing the authentic flavours of Portugal. The restaurant celebrates 20 years of inspiring fine cuisine and excellent service.

Afterwards, a stop at the Cockburn’s Lodge. The Cockburn’s cellars are the most extensive in the historic quarter of Vila Nova de Gaia. The sturdy granite walls of the Cockburn’s lodge house 6,518 seasoned oak barrels of maturing Port since 1815. A highlight of the visit to Cockburn’s is the possibility to view the coopers at work, wielding mallets with which they disassemble barrels stave by stave for maintenance and then reassemble them, a unique scene which has changed little over the centuries. Then, you will enjoy some of the most exclusive Ports either in the terrace, filled with vines, creating a magical atmosphere, or in the tasting rooms where the guided tasting takes place: Cockburn’s Special Reserve, Cockburn’s Late Bottled Vintage, Cockburn’s 10 Years Old Tawny, Cockburn’s 20 Years Old Tawny, Canais Vintage, Cockburn’s 2007 Vintage.

After the experience, close to the winery, you will discover a place for tasting, where wines are matched with Portuguese snacks under the guidance of renowned Chef Miguel Castro Silva at Decastro Gaia Restaurant. The gastronomy embraces the concept of innovation, diversification, and modernity of Porto Cruz project, challenging visitors to taste new experiences that test the palate in an informal yet stylish ambiance. Enjoy the Sunset with a Port Cocktail in the rooftop with 360º views over the river and cellars and enjoy Dinner inside the restaurant.
