Coming Soon: Douro Boys & Luxury Tours Portugal
In the heart of the Douro, something rare is taking shape... Imagine private tastings led by the winemakers themselves, exclusive access to legendary estates, and immersive journeys that go far beyond the typical wine tour.
For now, step inside the story of the Douro Boys: Portugal’s most prestigious winemaking alliance and discover how four iconic family-run estates redefined the Douro Valley as a world-class destination for luxury wine lovers.
Douro Boys
Formed in 2003, the Douro Boys brought together five iconic, family-run estates: Quinta do Vallado, Niepoort, Quinta do Crasto, Quinta do Vale Meão, and originally, Van Zellers & Co. Their mission is to showcase to the world not only the beauty and craftsmanship of Port wine, but also the extraordinary potential of Douro DOC table wines.
By joining forces, these five families elevated Portuguese wine tourism and redefined luxury wine experiences. Through global tastings, masterclasses, and immersive wine events, they positioned the Douro as one of the world’s most exciting wine regions, without losing sight of their roots or traditions, such as foot-stomping grapes and hand-harvesting steep vineyards.
While Cristiano van Zeller has recently stepped back from group events to focus on the 19th-century treasures of Van Zellers & Co, the collective continues with four pioneering estates, each with a distinct identity, but united by friendship, heritage, and passion.
Niepoort
Innovation meets legacy at Niepoort, one of Portugal’s most revered names in wine. Now in the hands of Dirk van der Niepoort and his son Daniel, the estate has gained international acclaim for its daring and experimental approach. From biological viticulture to pioneering single-varietal wines, Niepoort constantly pushes boundaries while staying grounded in family values and respect for the land.
Quinta do Vallado
Located near Peso da Régua, Quinta do Vallado offers a luxurious blend of history and hospitality. Founded in 1716 and once owned by the legendary Dona Antónia Ferreira, this estate is now led by João Ferreira Álvares Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, sixth-generation descendants. Guests can explore the vineyard, relax in a design-forward wine hotel, and taste award-winning wines born from both tradition and cutting-edge techniques.
Quinta do Crasto
Perched between Régua and Pinhão, Quinta do Crasto is all about authenticity and excellence. Run by brothers Tómas and Miguel Roquette, this estate is known for bold reds, elegant whites, and a warm welcome. With wine tourism experiences that include guided tastings and scenic estate tours, it’s the perfect place to soak in the valley’s beauty and flavor.
Quinta do Vale Meão
A jewel of the Douro Superior, Quinta do Vale Meão was founded in 1877 by Dona Antónia Ferreira. Now led by her descendants, Francisco, Luísa, and Jaime Olazabal, the 300-hectare estate embodies grandeur and family continuity. Its signature wine, Meandro, is a powerful expression of the terroir, structured, age-worthy, and always memorable.
A New Generation, A Lasting Legacy
What began as a brotherhood of five visionaries has matured into a dynamic legacy, now passed on to the next generation of winegrowers—sons, daughters, cousins—who are writing the next chapter of Portuguese wine excellence.
Together, the Douro Boys have elevated the Douro Valley onto the world stage, not just through wine but through storytelling, hospitality, and a fierce pride in their land.
